Bioterrorism

When you think of war, what comes to mind? For most people, war is generally thought of as two militant groups fighting to the death or until one side surrenders. The costs of war on both sides are immense. Not only is the funding of the war expensive but the amount of lives spent are as well. Battles are usually fought with guns, however in this day and age that isn't always the case. Although guns are a very easy way to kill, terrorists have discovered another way in which not only effects one person but tends to effect everyone around them.
The use of lethal diseases as a war tactic have unfortunately been used for years. Dating all the way back to the french and Indian war as well as the siege of Quebec. The spreading of disease such as smallpox causes massive losses in populations. When used, the entire public health is at risk. The rate in which the virus multiplies and jumps from victim to victim effects the entire community.
Smallpox was eradicated in 1979 however still remains frozen in a few labs around the world. The security in which this lethal disease is kept i am not sure of however if were ever to be breached would put everyone in harms way. The vaccine that is used to cure smallpox is no longer made, making the disease ever more dangerous. Why the virus is still around i have no idea.

  1. You made it clear this is an important issue. It's scary to think that the only cure is no longer made today.
